Report on Construction
Everything is moving very quickly now for a Feb 13 completion.
"Kirk is like a fox with a chicken in his jaws, shaking it 'til it's dead." - JD
Cabinet guy is cranking out cabinets and shelves.
Tektum ceiling is up and being trimmed.
Window sills are going in.
Baseboard trim - we were given an opportunity to move to a 6 inch baseboard trim from the 4 inch at an increase of .40 cents a linear foot. Kirk thought it might look better in scale to the building. I thought he just wanted to cover the sloppy paint job. We declined.
Fireplace doors are coming.
Door knobs are coming.
Metal door jams for closets are in and they now make sense.
A wood sill will be put on top of the half rise closet in kid's room.
Plastic laminate color chosen - Green Tigris
Granite color chosen - Polomo Green
The posts in the entry way cannot be removed because there are beams on them (obviously not load-bearing). Kirk suggested removing all the posts in the entry way saving us $1000 and additionally removing all the posts in the kitchen saving us $300. However the lighting has been installed and there is no way to install the cross-beams without obstructing them and the last post would block the exit sign anyway. So we're going to save $1000. Since Kirk initially had no idea how the two missing posts would be built into the kitchen and then changed his mind, we finally decided to in fact have them built for aesthetic reasons. At least one of the posts would also serve as a bumper as carts go by. So posts in the kitchen and none in the hallway.
Kirk was under the impression that sinks would be provided and delivered by the owner, [[Elph]] et al disagreed vehemently. JD agreed to take care of the sinks and [[Elph]] agreed to take care of the appliances. The wall ovens are going to be white GE (identified in the summer as cost-effective substitutes). They will be delivered in Tuesday. The stainless cook-top will be delivered Friday. The range-hood is to be a "venta-hood emerald" and it is going to be a 9" hood and Kirk is going to tell the cabinet guy that there is going to be a pipe via the cabinet. The Hobart LX38 dishwasher has an automatic soap dispenser but [[Elph]] is going to have to find a place around here to get them.
Kirk did purchase the sinks yesterday, but he changed the spec on the pot-washing sink (10 inches deep as per the spec) -- he purchased a sink for $250 instead of $1000 losing the built-in drip pan, but we can just use a plastic drip thing. Kirk also can't get the dangly faucet so we might have to do it later.
Washers and Dryers
Laundry room is pretty much ready and two sets of washers and dryers which will be delivered on Tuesday (Whirpool Duet). Since the model we ordered are end-of-lifed in the white colored, we are saving $500 per set!
Please DO NOT talk to the tradespeople. We don't need to upset Kirk so close to the finish...
